The law on ports should be more port friendly
The Danish minister of transport, Hans Chr. Schmidt, is preparing a revision of the law on ports. The goal is to secure a number of ports being able to function as effective transport centers in the Danish infrastructure.
The minister is interested in two questions: roads to and from the ports for heavy vehicles as well as securing that port areas are not being converted into housing purposes. -The law is established so that you can use ports, which otherwise just are languishing. We should have ports, where we can handle cargo and where companies can be placed. It demands a balance, says minister of transport, Hans Chr. Schmidt. The head of the secretariat in the trade association, Danish Ports, Tom Elmer Christensen thinks a shift is taking place in the legislators’ thoughts. The ports are not only seen as individual businesses, but also as elements in the total transport structure. -You have a much bigger understanding of the ports’ significance as vital infrastructure, says Tom Elmer Christensen.
